July 6, 1999 Started out from Nakano.

Kohno phoned to the Expedition Office at 7:20. He says "We are leaving Nakanoshima at 7:30 then voyage to Kuchino. Maybe arrive at around noon.".

Straight distance between Nakano to Kuchino is about 20km.

The geographical reference book "SIMADAS" describes Kuchino as the northern edge of the Tokara Islands. Wild cattle roam the mountain and and the air is fragrant with wild "Tamoto-yuri" (Lilium nobilissimum) blooms.

Kohno says to us phone at 20:00 PM. "The 7:30 AM of July 6th we left the Nakano exact told by phone last morning. We were arrival at Kuchino at 11:15 AM. It was no wave today like Setonaikai. So it was quicker than we expectation. The ocean around here is so beautiful. We can see fishes very well. If  the ocean around here been dirty, it mean the end of Japanese ocean. After we arrival, we made Ra-men as lunch. We will stay in B&B because no water around port. The menu of the supper is tuna fish's "Tataki" (Kind of Japanese raw fish cuisine. Grill the just only outside of the fillet a fish then put into ice and water to cool down quickly to make grilled outside with raw inside. Serve and eat as same as Sashimi.), Niku-Jaga (Sukiyaki flavor boiled potato with sliced beef), Subuta (Chinese sweet and sour pork), Boiled Fish and Vinegared food." ....sound delicious!

The schedule for tomorrow is "leave 7 o'clock at our plan. We will toward to Nagata-hama, Yaku-island" Kohno says.

c.f.: Between Nakano and Yaku's straight distance is about 70km. They will spend 11 to 12 hours as schedule.
