Hyouichi Kohno dreams to achieve ...

From his North Pole success, Kohno's dream has developed into an even deeper goal. It is to  "walk and kayak back from the North Pole to Japan". Named as "Hyoichi Kohno ~ Travel from 2001," Kohno has begun the planning and preparation.   Now, in June 1998, he is already on site inspecting Alaska's Bering Sea by sea kayak.

After reaching the summit of Mt. Aconcagua (28,834 ft = 6,960 meters) in December 1998, and before the North Pole to Japan Expedition in 2001, he is now preparing for this grueling 1,300 kilometer offshore voyage from Naha to Matsuyama by sea kayak.

In mid-June 1999, Kohno will begin at Naha by sea kayak with support team. The plan is to travel up to the North East riding the Kuroshio Current in the East China Sea. Passing Tokara Island, Van Diemen Strait, Miyazaki, Bungo Strait, finally arriving in Matsuyama in September 1999.

Purpose

Starting at the North Pole in 2001 - then back to Japan within 6 years. The "Hyoichi Kohno  - Travel from 2001-", will walk on the ice in winter, kayaking the ocean in summer. Then he will learn the techniques of offshore voyaging by rowing his way through the South-Western Islands. At the same time, he will visit and learn from the inhabitants of Okinawa, Amami Islands and Tokara Islands to study the Kuroshio Culture.  This summer (1999) voyage of 1,300 kilometers from Naha to Matsuyama, Ehime, is part of the larger 2001 goal.
