July 17 - 18, 1999 Left Kagoshima, arrived in Miyazaki.
Kohno phoned the Expedition Office by public phone, "We left Hetsuka at 8:10 AM yesterday. Arrived at Kitakata at 12:45 PM. We traveled 28 kilometers. I dropped the cellular phone and digital camera into the ocean. So these are not usable anymore."
Regarding today's schedule, "...We are leaving Kitakata." So they left Kitakata at 7:50 AM rowing up to Takamatsu, Kushima, in Miyazaki prefecture, a distance of about 21 kilometers. The arrival point has been scheduled to be near the tunnel (R22) west of Takamatsu beach. The media will be there to await their arrival. Also, Mr. Masumoto from the Expedition's Office will drive there in the Expedition Office's vehicle, a Mitsubishi Pajero to meet them when they arrive.
The 3rd stage will stop at that point temporarily. Kohno will leave to Siberia to research his next big adventure which is scheduled for 2001. But the 3rd stage will re-start in early September when it will continue toward the finish at Matsuyama City.
To accommodate today's schedule, they will be move to Kagoshima City by car. They will pay courtesy calls to related sections and services tomorrow then return home to Matsuyama.
July 18th at 11:35 AM, Kohno and Yoneda arrived at Takamatsu Beach, Miyazaki prefecture. They were interviewed by the media that were waiting for them at the beach. After their material was stowed away, they went to a hot spa near the beach. Then on to Kagoshima to stay the night. They will be back home in Matsuyama at 11:00 PM tomorrow.
