July 3, 1999 Staying over in Akuseki
At 7:48 AM today, Kohno telephoned the Expedition Office by cellular phone, "We postponed today's start, and will be staying over in Akuseki Island." The conversation on cellular phone is very clear here.
"It is cloudy but waves are still so high. We are camping at Yasurahama fishing port. We ate instant Ra-men for breakfast. The local store has few choices for food in stock. We both are OK."
"Yesterday a local person guided us to Mitake mountain by car. Mitake is 584m above sea level. The parabolic antennae of the administration's communication system or NTT are there."
So, they are staying over today in Akuseki, due to wave conditions.
At 8:05 PM, Kohno's second call came: "We visited an open-air hot spa, "Yudomari Onsen." Now the wind has stopped. It's cloudy with shower. Perhaps tomorrow we can start again. We ate steamed rice, Furikake (a tasty dried seasoning for sprinkling on rice), canned shellfish, Takuan (yellow pickled white radish) and little more that the TV staff left. The lunch was rice porridge."
Kohno also said "We will press on to Suwanose, Nakano, Kuchino, and Yaku reaching one island per day". Let's pray God's help with the weather also.
