June 29, 1999 Staying over in Tokara

Ehime Shinbun run a report of this expedition as the special page.

At 7:10 AM today, Kohno telephoned the Expedition Office, "We must postpone our scheduled departure from Tokara-island today because of impossible weather".

"After yesterday's rest, our physical condition is recovered and we are healthy. It is 15 kilometers between between Tokara and Kodakara. We can see a view of Kodakara island. The waves off shore have whitecaps. Therefore we are not leaving today.

"We had a sightseeing opportunity yesterday include the limestone cave.

We had a barbecue with the island people last night and had a good time.

Unloading the kayak at port. We can see how sea kayaks are loaded. (Photo by Kohno this week, but we're not yet sure when and where it was taken.)

We slept in the tent. The cellular phone works fine around here. The local people were correct when they said 'you can use cellular phones at Tokara Islands.' "

The best thing is that they fully recovered their strength after one day of rest. After this, our schedule is dependant on the weather.

When Expedition Office contacted Kohno later in the night of 29th, he was waiting on the weather to decide the schedule for the 30th. A heavy seasonal rain front is staying on. He enjoyed the stay spending time at the hot spa and with the people. (23:50p.m. JST)
