July 15, 1999 Staying over in Tanega.
July 15 5:45 AM Kohno phoned the day's first report to the Expedition Office, "The wind is so strong. White caps are on the ocean. Weather report says waves will be 1.5 meters tall. But we'll wait a little bit and see the actual conditions." Later at 0740, "The situation is not going to change, so we will stay over today. We are going to the cape to see the condition of the sea"
Tanega Island is not so small. It is famous as the place where the first rifle was introduced into Japan in 1543. They will not have a hard time to spend their day off.
July 14, 1999 Started out Yaku, Arrive at Tanega.
July 14 6:57 AM Kohno phoned the Expedition Office. He said they were starting toward Tanega Island.
His clear voice said "We leave Issou, Yaku at 7:00 AM then voyage to Sumiyoshi, Tanega island. Weather report suggests the wind will change from North-western to Western wind. The distance between Sumiyoshi and Issou is 52 km as the crow flies. We think we will take 10 hours to arrive." So they will be there around 6:00 PM.
By the phone report at 17:02PM: "We left Yaku at 7:00 AM and arrived at Yokino Beach, Tanega Island at 1640." They completed this trip 1 hour 20 minutes faster than planned. They are vigorous. They will camp at Kumano Camp Site.
The travelers dictionary "SHIMADAS" describes:
"Kumano Beach: A beautiful beach in a tropical atmosphere. It is 8 minutes drive by car from Nishino-omote Port." Sounds like the best place to take a rest after a hard voyage.
